On pitsoned leggs it came, roaring with the fury of bound deamons.

A Deamonsmith acompanied it, he told me he was send by glorious Khorne and pledged fealty to me and my cause.

He swore to me he could build more machines of metal, flesh and warpspawn and all he asked in return were the souls of slain victims, I did not deny him.

Months of nothing and now 2 entries in a row, must be something I ate...

I always had a thing for Defilers ever since they came out 10 or so years ago, it has remained a favorite of mine.
So logically a new one would find it's way into my army, there was no other way.

These things can ditch out a world of hurt and can take some in return, if they were good before they became even better now.

It has a nice battlecannon wich can make stuff go 'splut' from a distance and 2 great fat chunky claws to cut things up and I haven't even started on the heavy flamer and the reaper cannon.. juicy.

One of it's claws is posed as if about to strike something unfortunate and I added some spikes and chains along with a few Khorne glyfs to show it's allegiancy.

This brings me now to 750 points worth of Chaos Space Marines painted.
Next will be a nice unit of Raptor: jumpinfantery.
These will be the main part of the 1000 points force I've got planned.

Game on!!!Makaisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03721165086030923116noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114340442002047697.post-10066398649029125652013-02-23T12:00:00.001-08:002013-02-23T12:00:48.076-08:00Children of the Khorne part 3: Gatherings

And as I was promised, more flocked to my banner.

We butchered in the name of the Bloodgod all who dared to defy us, taking their skulls and offering their souls to Khorne.

It's been a while since my last post, truth is I couldn't be arsed to put paint on my miniatures but I seem to have found my 'drive' again.
Also december was quiet a busy month work-wise and I wasn't able to paint anyway since the Missus banned my 'little guys' and paints to The Dungheap during the festive days, must be a chick thing.

Next in line are 10 more Khorne berzerkers and a Rhino.
Personally I believe that every aspiring champion 'tunes' his, or her, Rhino to their own taste and this geezer has a thing for skulls, spikes and chains.
This unit has a minor conversion too, I gave the champion 2 close combat weapons and took a suitable head from a Space Wolf sprue.
He's positioned as if he's screaming his rage to the heavens.

A good thing in this period on 'non-brushing' is that I had time to think about my army, initially I wanted it to be a 100% close combat army but this just doesn't work.
A defiler (wich is in it's final stages of painting) was quickly added along with some Terminators and Raptors.
Further planned are an Aegis Defence Line (basecoated) and a small unit of heavyweapons Havocs (ordered).
2 units of Chaos Cultists (cannonfodder), a flyer (being converted) and a unit of Chosen are in the pipeline, not to mention the new Deamons who came out this weekend who will serve as allies.

For the meanwhile I'll concentrate on the Defiler since this will bring my force up to a neat 750 points.

Laters all!!!!
As I continued my pilgrimage in name of the Bloodgod, I encountered on the deamonworld of Khalaxiss a warband of Berzerkers.

Their champion issued a challenge wich I gladly accepted.

Screaming the name of my Lord I attacked him with glorious anger and blisfull hate and as I held his severed head aloft and smeared his blood over my face I knew Khorne had marked my out for greatness...

Finally my Khorne army starts to take shape.
A fair few issues arrose between now and my last 40K post, hence the reason it took me so long to get another thing done.
1/ Them Khorne dudes are SMOTHERED in detail at times, rather time consuming.
2/ It took me a while to find a satisfying way to paint red the easy way, couldn't find it so it was back to basics.
3/ What to take? I had a few testgames and one of my earlier options was dropped (more on that later).
4/ Work!!! I found a job last month and whilst it's very fun and it pays well, it took me a while to settle in.

So now I have 10 neatly painted Khorne Berzerkers with a Champion, thanks to my Chaos Lord having the Mark of Khorne I can take these guys as Troop choices instead of elites.
I know they cost me a fair deal in points but when they get to grips with the enemy they are more than worth it, you just can't argue with 4 strength 5 attacks a piece when they charge....

To increase their survivability and to help them cross the battlefield more swiftly I gave them a Rhino APC.
It's tuned up a bit with nasty spikes, a dangerous looking fender and a dirgecaster wich prevents enemy troops close by to take snapshots at you.
Smokelaunchers and a Stormbolter were mounted too to give me hand in battle.

Next up are 10 more Berzerkers with another Rhino, this vehicle will be more baroque in appearance since I believe that every champion decorates his APC to his, or her, own taste.

March will see the launch of a small 2 month campaign in our gamingclub and I've entered with my 'maniacs'.
This will be split up in 3 parts: one of 750 points, one of 1000 and a 1250 points one.
Originally I wanted 10 Raptors (jump infantery) in the army but I dropped them in favour of a Defiler after I've spend 3 rounds kicking dents in an Ork Deffdread last game.
I REALLY need something that can kill armour but the Raptors will come back for the 1000 point stage of the campaign.

Hope you like these and see you next year, have a merry x-mas and a happy new year everyone!!!
The price: a set of custom made dice.

I voiced my hopes to end in the top 5, I never expected top 3 tho so you can all understand I'm a happy person.

The entry that did won was more than deserved, it was a good piece with a nice and crisp paintjob.

Gamingbuddy Tomsche, who brought this competition under my attention finished 6th.
The poor lad really wanted those dice and if I had won, I would've given them to him gladly.

Here's the link to the competition where you can find all the entries, the winner is nr 5, Tomsche nr 1 and me nr 2 http://www.talkfantasyfootball.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=37334
And so began my journey on the path to eternal glory and life immortal.

The baying of hellish hounds, the wailing of souls forever in torment and the chanting of deamons accompanied me as I knelt before the pile of skulls in the pool of blood that I had created in worship and so I pledged my allegiance to Lord Khorne.

Last saturday TSA, our gamingclub, hosted it's annual fair: Crisis.
I'll leave out all the details of it's glory, know that it was by far beter than the previous editions, but know that I went there with a 'mission'.

Ever since Warhammer 40K's 6'th edetion came out it has got me in it's grip, that game is fun again and so my Necrons came out of their stasis crypts to retake the galaxy.
At least they tried, they got beaten back time and again by Orks and Chaos Marines.
I'm not giving up on them, it's a gorgeous army and one I fully intend on expanding in the future but Chaos has me in it's sway.

In fact, Chaos always had since my ever first 40K army was an all female Slaanesh Marine force.
This time I'm throwing in my lot with the aggresive berzerkers of the bloodgod Khorne.

First of the paintingtable was Vrakûll, my Chaos Lord and thanks to his mark of Khorne he can take the aforementioned Berzerkers as troops.
I'm intending to build this army as close combat orientated as possible, how else can you chop peoples heads of if you blow them to bits from afar.

The obvious colours were ofcourse red and brass, I added some parts in plain iron and gave an extra highlighting to the leering deamonface on his shoulderpad with a purple tongue for contrast.
The skullbase was a must, Black Cat produces them cheap and to a fairly good quality.

I don't think that's a giant bat..Today my Necrons finally take to the skies thanks to this nice Doom Scythe.

Ever since the model came out I had to have one, it's the coolest flyer EVER next to the Ork plane and the more I read it's stats, the more I want to field it.
Tomorrow it'll get it's chance to prove it's worth and I must say I have high hopes.

This GW kit can build you 1 out of 2 varieties, either the Night Scythe or the Doom Scythe.
The former is a transport with a capacity of 15 infantery, 7 jump infantery or 5 jetbikes (they beam them down) and the latter is a deathdealer pure and simpel.

While it's secondairy weapons are nice ( a twin linked tesla destructor) it's main one is fingerlicking groovy: The Deathray.... This puppy shoots out a beam and dissolves nearly anything underneat it.
Pretty cool but it gets better, if you hit a unit with it, the WHOLE unit gets rammed up the butt.
Me likes a LOT!!

The trusted 3-B colourscheme was applied as usual and works really well but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
It wasn't until later that I noticed that I had it's stem mounted wrong on the base but this is more than alright, it makes it look as if the Scythe is in the middle of an attack run.

See you soon with some more Necron goodness..

So now nearly 6 months later it's time for me to delever the goods so to speak.
The main reason why it took such a long time was that I simply knew what colours to paint it in but not to sure in wich way (more blue, less blue,.....) and since it's such a nice mini from Forgeworld I wanted to do it justice even though it's fairly inexpencive to their standards.

Necron? Forge World? Inexpencive?.....
Some of you might have been checking the site http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/ and prolly have been guessing right, I'm talking about the Tomb Stalker.

Ever since it came out it has been a favorite of mine in my most beloved army and I simply knew I must have one one day.

I blamed GW for giving up on their clear green plastic rods used in the Necron weapons but the more I look at it, the more I fancy repainting them all on all my older miniatures wich I will start to do in the near future.

I'm planning on regularly adding more models to the force, just like Tomsche is a nutter for Chaos Dwarfs, I have a deep fondness for the Necrons.

I hope you like him and see you next time with more roboty nastyness..

A fellow blogger came up with the rules and the idea to make a little 'scratchbuild your own deathroller' competition and I gladly accepted the challenge.
Since this wasn't gonna be a run of the mill project I opted for a suitable name: The Jungle Bunny!!!

Years ago I came up with the idea for using pygmees instead of Dwarfs in Warhammer, it was a fun, cheap and original project wich will always be kept around the house.
I've bought and sold several things over the ages but not this screwy funny force.
Little surpise then that I still had some of the diminiutive fellers lying in a corner somewhere and so along with some other crap from the bitsbox, glue and absolutely no idea of how it was gonna look in the end I set to work.

After an hour or 2 this was the result:

By then, a colourscheme was starting to take shape and I wanted a dark feel to it as if it was clobbered together by a coldhearted race.
I think I succeeded:

1 Fenryll Pygmee
2 GW Gobling shields
1 GW Skaven shield
1 GW banner bit
Toothpicks
Saté skewers
Bits of balsawood, including the 'wheels' from a model ship
1 Round 40mm base
Kitchen rope
Sand and static grass
1 Skull
A bloody lot of glue, choice words and patience

At first it was going to be Space Wolves as this is the only chapter that appeals to me, they're less aloof and haughty than the others.
Second option was going to be the Ebony Lions chapter, based on the Zulu's but still using the rules for the Space Wolves but the colourscheme was beyond my reach time and time again, I simply could not find a satisfying 'ebony' for the powerarmour.
In came option number 4: Chaos Marines and this time I was going to sell my soul to the lord of blood: Khorne.
This would give me a nice excuse to use the skullbases manufactured by Black Cat but in the end I didn't fancy starting from scratch yet again.

So option number 3 came back of the shelve: a home made chapter, using the rules for the Space Wolves but based on the Scots.
And so the Emperor's Highlanders were born.
The first member of the chapter is Laird Angus 'Firebeard' MacDonnal, he's armed with a Stromshield and a Claymore powerweapon.
His Tartan is loosely based on the Mac Donald one, years ago I dragged an encyclopedia on the tartans back home from Scotland and now it's starting to pay off.

Don't ask me how many colours went into this miniature but it were a LOT and it took me a fair few hours to get him done, I even had to do his tartan twice and it's still not entirly to my liking but, first time for everything.

I hope you like him.
You can't really see on thess pictures but he's standing on the ruins of some Celtic floortile, I tought it was fitting to the whole theme.

Next up will be a Space Marine battalion box, it's my birthday tomorrow and my relatives were generous enough to allow me to afford one of these, if I add a Whirlwind tank I can have a nice 650 points worth of highly armoured madness on the table!!!
Untill next time.

I decided to do only 1 battle and then go home for a good night's rest and so it happened, my opponent was Iwan with his minions under the leadership of Bloody Barnabas.
With him were a Blackhide Wrastler, a Bull Snapper and an Ironback Spitter wich he nicknamed 'The Turtle of Doom' since it died a lot, or so he claimed.

I got the kick off and after he flooded the terrain with swamps due to some special rule of Barnabas (what's the deal with crocodiles and mud?) I moved my Warbeasts and Lylyth en masse towards the gatormen.

In his turn he created some more swampy terrain and had his Ironback spit a load of corrosive phlem onto my Shredders wounding 2 and killing 1 outright... Turtle of Doom indeed....

Disaster heaped on disaster since I couldn't shoot any of his models when they were standing in those blasted swamps and when I charged the Carnivean into Barnabas, pinching 5 health of the old croc, he got chopped to catfood by the enemy Warlock and the Bullsnapper.
At least it took him 2 models to kill him so I got moral victory over that at least.

After his Turtle spat 1 more Shredder to death and his Bullsnapper gobbled up another one things looked VERY dire indeed and so I started considering a tactical withdrawal...... not!
I steeled my resolve, counted my blessings that Lylyth still had her full 5 furypoints left and decided not to go down quietly.
So my Winter Elf elegantly stepped from behind a building, casted Parasite on Barnabas lowering his ARM by 3 and gaining 1ARM in return, released 2 arrows into the bastard, knocking off some more health and popped her feat to make her Warbeast (a very tiny one) more agressive.

So said beastie charged into Crocman, risking a free strike from the Wrastler, his heavy Warbeast, and miraculously got trough when the big brute missed with his attack....
And so with my Shredder around his troath, poor old Barny got a very bloody ending.

I won, against all my expectations I won.
First blood for The Legion!!!!!

I must admit I got very lucky, I made some stupid mistakes due to fatigue but all in all it was a very fun game with Iwan having the time of his life over the outcome, he never saw that one coming and neither did I.

'Till next time :-)))
A box wich I've purchased ages ago to be honest.

Some time ago I was lured into the Journeyman league for Warmachines and Hordes in our gamingclub.
My armies of choice are Kadhor and Cryx but none of their starters really apeal to me and since I didn't want to start a completely new force from scratch I turned my attention to the the Dragonfather's offspring: Everblight and his corrupted Winter Elves.

I wanted them to have a 'Deamonette of Slaanesh' feel so I chose greyish purple and white with silver metals and light browns for the leather bits and bows and weapons.
The bases were kept grey with patches of snow and tufts of withered grass to make them look 'arctic'.

First to be completed was Lylyth, my warlock.
As I wanted her to stand out a bit I gave her fiery red hair.

Next up was her Heavy warbeast, the Carnivean. who was promptly nicknamed 'The Puppy' by my kids....

One thing that is unique to the Legion are the lesser warbeasts, in this case Shredders, since no other faction uses this type.
Individually they aren't worth a kick in the bottom but field them in packs and your opponent WILL have a nasty problem, espescially when you cast the right spells on them.

So here we have the whole bunch, 13 points worth of draconic nastyness.

Over the coming days and months I will gradually build up the army to 15, 25 and ultimately 35 points.
To reach the 15 point limit I only need 1 model and she's being painted as we speak.

Till next time.

I bought these 20x40mm tokens cheap as chips from EM4 miniatures for my Hordes faction, the Legion of Everblight.
I opted for purple, just like the small gems I got for the furypoints, and white letters to keep in touch with the purple and white colourscheme I chose for the miniatures (expect pics of these soonish)

The white letters were written on with an acrylic marker and later given a coat of matt varnish to protect them from harm.

Right you can see the spell Lylyth can cast, I made 3 of each just in case.
On the left are the different Animi wich come with the warbeasts and wich they can either cast on themselves or be cast on eachother, with or without help from the Warlock.

Oh, and I got purple dice aswell....

I know it's been a while but I've been on summerholliday in early august and I couldn't paint for the remainder of the month due to the blistering heat here.
Now that the temperatures have cooled down a bit to more acceptable levels it's time to pick up the brushes again.

Today's victim is a classical piece, originally produced bij Armourcast waaaay back in the 90's under licence of Games Workshop.
I'm talking about the Cauldron of Blood, deamonic engine dedicated to Khorne.
If you're lucky they sometimes turn up on e-bay for rather hefty prices.... I got mine from a bloke at our gamingclub for a tenner....

Now if there's one thing I like apart from beer, cider and bacon butties it's painting up old school stuff in the new school style with new paints.
Obviously red and brass were picked, no pink and blue stuff for the Lord of Skulls.
Said skulls were painted in a crisp white, they don't have that much texture on them so I made them a bit sleeker looking but not by much.
The horns were painted more bull-like and then given a coat of gloss varnish, just like the blood in the cauldron.

I hope you like him...

Mordheim, as some might know and shame on those who don't, is a skirmished based 28mm miniature game set in the Warhammer world revovling around the ruined city of Mordheim.
Some call this thing 'Necromunda for fantasy' and since I've never played Necromunda I'll agree with that, but I do know for fact that it's the most fun game ever by Games Workshop.
The aim of the game is that you assemble a warband of suitable cutthoaths and venture out into the city to find loot, obviously you're not the only one with this idea and so you'll soon come to blows with your rivals.
Your warriors can gain wealth and experience by fighting and surviving but they can also suffer wounds that have an effect on their characteristics wich I think is brilliant.
A fair few warbands were created by GW and a lot more stuff is fanbased and whilst I support the fans I followed my instincts and opted for a gang of Possessed, in short Chaos Cultists.
One thing I must tell you is that I'm currently unemployed so the whole thing is done on a budget but this doesn't mean it was gonna be pug-ugly.
Years ago the Powers of Chaos granted me a nice set of miniatures from Heresy and these came in handy as a Magister, Brethren and a Dark Soul, the beastman is a Sebeki miniature from Crocodile Games.
The Possessed is a whole different story... I picked him up at the bring and buy at Crisis last year for scratch and kitbashed him with plastic bits from GW and a nice amount of green stuff.
So now I have a 6 man warband of Chaos lovers called the 'Cult of the Black Pit' for ziltch.. who said wargaming's expencive?

It's impotant to think about the future and prepare yourself, I only got 2 heroes so at first my Wyrdstone income will be low so as soon as I can afford him Brother Maddox will join the gang.
If I can manage to paint up the stuffed piglets, taxidermist and pigapult before thursday I can go to The Outpost with my head held high!!!
The 4 Bayou Gremlins were painted with a more limited colourscheme, mainly brown, grey and blue.
This was then applied in different configurations to create a rag-tag look and yet give them a uniform feel.
The same unhealthy green skintone was used, again to tie them visualy to So'mer and to make it look like a whole.
The rusty guns are there too just as the marsh bases.

The rider on the warpig was given the same treatment as the rest of the gang whilst the hog itself got a pure pink basecoat wich got gradually highlighted to a more mundaine skintone in order to create a rozy healthy looking beast.
The spots on its hide were first painted on in a grey basecoat and given a grey/elf flesh highlight
All in all I'm happy with them, they're fairly easily to assemble and they're straightforward to paint.
What they lack in scultped details they make more than up in comical value and to be honest I don't like painting lot's of chains and gems and other little gewgaws anyway so that' fine by me.

I must say that in real life they look better and for once this isn't due to a dying camera but thanks to a brand new one wich I'm not yet used to yet.

See you next time all.
Makaisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03721165086030923116noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114340442002047697.post-80644895269205616492012-07-04T15:11:00.000-07:002012-07-04T15:11:19.523-07:00In the So'mer timeLast week I got an invite to come to a Malifeaux demo at the Outpost in Antwerp for next thursday, the 12th that is.
And believe it or not but I happened to have some minis for that game lying around: the Bayou Gremlins.
They're about the only faction in the game that I liked at that moment (little did I know those Japanese ghosts were on the way) and still like to be honest (who needs Japanese ghosts anyway) due to their extremely high redneck-hillbilly style.
Some time later the So'mer Teeth Jones boxed set and a few extra pigs were delivered on my doorstep.
And now, after some considerable time, I finally managed to paint up the big guy: So'mer himself.

I gave him dirty clothes, a rusty gun, an unhealthy green skintone and a red, white and blue top hat (he's American after all) wich has seen better and certainly cleaner days.
The planks are remains of a wooden walkway wich you often find in marshy areas and it's a theme featured troughout the whole... army...
All in all he's a fun little guy to paint, not overly detailed but with nice little touches like the medals on his hat and the cigar.

I hope you like him.Makaisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03721165086030923116noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114340442002047697.post-33628106557124288582012-06-24T06:28:00.001-07:002012-06-24T06:28:28.484-07:00It's.... therapyAs I said before I've entered a sculpting competition hosted by Hasslefree miniatures

Originally I wanted to do a Dryad in the midst of transforming from tree to human form, some soft erotic stuff and I even made scetches of it.
Friday she was shoved into my mailbox and I must say that she's rather tiny and fine, no offence tho, and so the whole hippie tree chick thing went out of the window.
After pondering for a few hours I came up with an idea, it was gonna be a rather ambitious multipart project wich fitted my 'sculptingskills' just perfectly.
I didn't want to sculpt hair nor clothes, I wanted to do a fantasy thing and I wanted animal aspects in it: Centaur.... not, half horse/human stuf has been done, done, done again, done some more, done enough to piss me off and done far to many times.
So I went for a Spidertaur, or Censpider or whatever you wanna call an eight-legged invertebrate with a human torso on it.
Since the starting mini is female I besed her on the infamous Black Widow spider, I didn't want her on a fat and hairy body but more on a sleek and nasty looking one so there's the advantage of keeping her head bald alltough a small carapace looking protrution might be added.
This is what I got so far and I must say it looks pretty well.

I've got only one major problem with this whole project and that's the fact that I'm arachnophobic, so much even that on a regular basis I dash around the house shivvering and emitting sounds of utter disgust much to my son's ammusement, he asked me why I'm making a spider even though I fear them.
My reaction however tells me one thing: I'm right on track and after a shot of wodka or 3 I was ready to start working on the legs.
So yeah, it's kind of therapy.
And speaking of legs, I still got the legs of the armature lying around, I'm thinking on using them for some Arab babe in burka or nikab after this is done, just for laughs and to calm my overly stretched nerves due to sculpting an eight legged freak...
Makaisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03721165086030923116noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114340442002047697.post-50125519805911728182012-06-14T12:52:00.003-07:002012-06-14T12:56:00.802-07:00And.... CUT!!!Well, this is it.
I'm taking a break of sorts, no more painting against the clock untill further notice.
So yes, I'm quitting the ARAM for now.
Why?
First of all I felt I was struggling to get any decent project done, I kept postponing things.
Second is that I'm in all probabillity going back to school as of september and this will ask for a lot of my time and attention since my future depends on it.
So with the summerholliday coming and with it a month of gaming at GW and 2 weeks of titty staring on a French beach I'm stopping my monthly regiment stress, I feel like I deserved the needed rest.
I'm not going full stop on the whole modelling and painting stuff, oh no, I've entered a sculpting contest ( I can't sculpt for shit to be honest) and I'm keen on having a 500 points Space Marine army done (yes, the Zulus) but I'll just contribute less over the coming months, that's all.

So see you all later, a bit less but not never again!!!
I may have mentioned that this would be done somewhere in the future.
I may have... done the first model *sigh*
It's just a work in progress but it may give you an idea on how the mini will look like.
What you see here is my Space Marine captain: Induna Thembinkosi wich roughly in their language means Chieftain He Who Trusts in The Lord.
Various bits from both the Space Wolf and Space Marine captain sprues were used, his powersword was swapped for a spear (assegaai), the plumes and feathers were scavenged from Empire handgunners and knights and the 'pompoms' around his shins were sculpted by yours truly.
The rules for the Space Wolfs will be used for this army, both still fight in a tribal way.
Why do I keep doing stuff like this...Makaisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03721165086030923116noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114340442002047697.post-25743528017578727672012-06-07T14:07:00.000-07:002012-06-07T14:07:01.187-07:00Moving made easyIt's a public secret that I'm reinstituting my Nercon force and I'm fiddling slightly with a Space Wolf army allthough that's not concrete yet since I might swap them for the Ebony Lions, a Space Marine chapter based on African Zulu's but with the Space Wolf rules.
Two things always made me frown a bit on 40K, one of them is the force organitation wich is pretty much set nomatter how many points you fight over but this has been rectified with Apocalyps and truth be told: you hardly see 2000+ points games on a clubnight anyway.
The second is that the mini's are in a skirmish formation and not rank-and-file and whilst this allows for a great liberty and freedom on the modeling part, it may be a bit tiresom to move your infantery about the battlefield because uptill now GW never made movetrays for 25mm rond bases.
They did, and those trays aren't overly expencive to boot wich almost made me pick some up and I do say ALMOST ....
So they were designed for Lord of the Rings and who cares? They would've been great for 40K.
Only thing is you can only fit 8 models in them instead of 10, why they did this is completely beyond me.
So it was back to square 1 and an expedition on the world wide web for something to my liking both in miniature capacity and price.
E-bay based Fenris Games stepped into that void, they sell plywood movetrays wich fit 5 models.
The trays come on 2 parts: 1 1.5mm solid base and 1 1.5mm cut out piece.
All it takes is a bit of PVA glue to fit the 2 pieces together, they're strong enough to be based, painted and flocked to your taste.
Delivery was very fast and without any problems, I can really reccomend them: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Fenris-Games_W0QQsspagenameZMEQ3aFQ3aSTQQtZkm

So today I've painted up 10 trays wich will see action tomorrow, the Trusty Rusties will move about even faster from now on!!
The Dahaleck Dynasty is being bolstered this month by Overlord Acinom, the Kryptec Ehtnem and 5 brandnew plastic Immortals.
The first one being the 'freebee' in the annihilation-command barge boxed set, the second is a Finecast ( and a quality one this time) and the latter.... utter bitch to assemble...
The Immortals have a tube running from their Gauss Blaster to their spine and wilsth I have no problems whatsoever with tubes running from ones weapon to ones spine as such, I do have a major issue with the tubes needing assembly smack in the middle.
Not only will the joint remain visible nomatter how many putty I use, the damn things were unnaligned to boot and no ammount of bending, glueing, threatning and swearing seemed to be of any help.
So out came the clippers and off went the tubes, I'm pretty sure that a tecnologically advanced race of killer droids can cram an adequate powersource in their guns without the need of sticking tubes up their asses for support.
I'm not going to waste space and time about the colourscheme, my previous Necronposts are already full of that.
A little word on the Kryptec perhaps since, unlike the Overlord and the Immortals, he was a bit of an unwanted child.
I needed a clearly definable Overlord and the few metal Immortals I own will be replaced by the new plastic ones so these were obvious choices but I wasn't wholly impressed by the Kryptecs at first glance.
Mind you, I had only been briefly looking at the codex at the time and out of curiousity I took a closer peek at the Kryps and their upgrades..... and wanted one pronto.
Now, kneel Mortals!!!
Well... it's a base, an oval one actually.
It needs to be that big and even then the 'thing' hardly fits on it.
Even the most base game is played on a kitchen table with books for hills, tea mugs for trees and a hankerchief for a swamp.
I think I can safely say that 95% of all wargamers dreams about or owns a gaming area with some nice scenery fitted to space and budget available and I'm no different.
Over the years I have accumulated various pieces for my one day gamingtable (kitchentable) such as trees, a bunker etc. and last year when TSoA was having some much needed repairs done I managed to rescue a nice set of gamingtiles from the trashcontainer, much to Frau Oberst's disgust when I arrived home.
And so last sunday was the big day, I finally set up a nice little terraintable for me and my son, introducing him in Warhammer 40K in a small 150 points skirmishgame, he had a blast of a time....
All the pieces were unpainted at the time and so I descided it was due time to paint the lot and make next game even more enjoyable as the last.

This bunker was purchased at Crisis and is from the Black Cat range knocking me back a 'staggering' £15
I found the skull in a bargainbin at my local aquarium/terrarium shop.
It's due to various reasons I guess, work issues (no longer an issue since last week) gaming issues (WoW's just to fun to ignore) and I've been doing a fairly ammount of reading lately.
Fear not tho, ARAM for may is underway so no issues on that department.
Earlier this week I my resolve finally gave in and I found myself dragging my feet into the GW-store in Antwerp and grabbing the last copy of Codex: Nercons.
To 'celebrate' my weakness I purchased the Command Barge/Annihilation Barge at the same time, it's one of those rare GW kits wich can give you 2, and in my case 3, models for the price of 1,HURRAY!!
It's the very first new model that I bought for this army in 8 years so needless to say I was a bit excited to assemble and add it fully painted to my collection.
The barge was constructed with carnage in mind so the 2 large boomsticks were the things of choice to be mounted on top of the vehicle, this left me with a 'free' plastic Necron Overlord (the 25mm base was included in the box).
The classic 3-B colours were applied (Bone-Blue-Bronze) so it would fit seamlessly into the rest of the force.
It's a pitty GW ditched the clear green plastic rods for the new models, must be the price tag so the barrels were painted green and highlighted to yellow.
All in all I'm happy with this model and already I'm thinking on expanding my Necron army and replacing some older OOP models like the Wraiths and the Immortals but those will come in due time.

Before I forget, I mentioned a third model made from this kit.
I had some leftover bits and since some scenarios in 40K ask for an objective marker I made this one.
It's a lost probe or something, a gizmo that enters the atmosphere at high altitude and gathers valuable military data during a supersonic flight wich it then transfers back to the fleet prior to recovery or self destruction, this one crashed tho.
Big Boris was launched april 24th and already this monday he arrived here in not so sunny Belgium.
Assembly was a quick and thankfully uneventful affair and let me tell you this big fella weighs a ton!!! Even the scenic base is made out of metal, heavy man.
The painting however took a bit longer, 4 hours or so in total since I wanted this mini to be special: lots of leather, tattoos, coloured tiles,...
I also tried to paint his axe in non metallic metals, a painting technique wich I've never braved before and had me in doubts for days up to the moment I held my brush in front of BB's weapon.
In the end I voiced my doubts to my ten year old son, who was painting an orc at the other side of the table, he sipmly shrugged and told me to just go for it... and so I did.
Let me tell you it's a difficult thing and only suitable for display pieces but it's really fun to do and it turned out better than I had hoped or expected.
So here he is in all his overly muscled glory: Big Boris!!!
Happy Birthday Andy and Boris :-)))Makaisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03721165086030923116noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114340442002047697.post-16329196312391571632012-04-27T14:34:00.001-07:002012-04-27T14:34:50.121-07:00+++ SYSTEMS REBOOTING+++Today I wandered into the GW store in Antwerp (why do I keep going to that accursed place), looking for The Empire armybook since I finally found a use for James Graham and his Royalist Scots and Irish when I found out that this summer they will be hosting a 650 point 40K tournament.
As we were talking about it I mentioned I still had a Necron army on shelfduty, the models were painted 8 years ago and to a good standard, they even won me best painted army once back in 2004.
I've thrown the metallic colourscheme out the window back then and went for a more Khemri-look, wich seemed to appeal to the store manager because he'd love to see them some time.
I'm a bit reluctant to field them again since the whole soul less image they had seemed gone by giving them named characters and such even though I like the new models.
Also the fact that it was 8 years ago since I painted my last Necron has always put me off into starting them again as it would be hard, not to say impossible, to reproduce the exact colourscheme.
In the end I left the store emptyhanded, the Empirebook was sold out again (I ordered a copy), and settled down in the local pub with a friend discussing different topics including a 650 point Necron army.
By the time I got home my resolve and reluctancy had buckled... The Nercons are returning..

These were painted 8 years ago, it was a fairly ambitious paintingproject and took me a rather long time to get them battleworthy.
This Destroyer Lord was painted today, it has roughly the same colours and was done in a fraction of the time it took me all those years ago.
